Maca for adrenal regulation and energy?
I'm just curious as to folks' experience with this supplement. Even if you took it for other purposes like period regulation and libido, I'd be interested to hear about any side effects, difficulties, and pros. It is one of those things I'm thinking of putting on a list to talk to one of my specialist doctors about.

Re: Maca for adrenal regulation and energy?
WebMD notes few, if any, cons, while Livestrong and blog testimonials have some troubling things to say in the mix.
Also if you have any history of thyroid problems, was taking Maca a good or a bad thing for you? Thanks.

Re: Maca for adrenal regulation and energy?
Thanks, Keen!
Customer reviews suggest that you start with a small dose and then work up to either the amount recommended by your doctor or on the bottle. Its hormone-regulating properties can apparently be hormone-wacko for some people if they don't go slow (and sometimes even if they do go slow). Maca appears to be used for strength/energy, fertility, libido, hormone regulation (PMS/menopause), and adrenal regulation. From what I've read so far it can help some with hypothyroid (but be problematic for hyperthyroid and maybe for some hypos too?). There are a lot of different compounds in the maca root, and different components may do different things (both a blessing and a curse to have so many components). I'll keep it on my doctor check list and continue listening here if others have something to contribute.

Re: Maca for adrenal regulation and energy?
I took it in a very small amount in Vitanica's Pregnancy Prep. I had a huge increase in appetite (and gained weight), and problems with sleeplessness and jitteryness. Taking the other herbs in that blend were fine. To further confirm it was the Maca, I tried some of my darling's Maca, and it definitely increased my appetite and made me anxious. I read in several places that Maca can be associated with an increase in appetite.
My naturopath is treating me for adrenal fatigue and frequent early miscarriages and has me taking Vitex and a supplement called Drenatropin, she didn't think Maca was a good idea for adrenals.
