Bedwetting EVERY night at 7 years old

My almost 12 year old is an almost nightly wetter too. She hates it and nothing we have tried has helped...alarm, bribery, medication to change her sleep cycle. No one has ever said we should see a pediatric urologist for an exam though...no I'm wondering if we need to set up an appt.

You say you have tried a medication to change her sleep pattern, there is one that supposedly helps with the bladder muscle (or so I have been told). Have you tried that or has it been suggested. I know most doctors will not suggest medication until after 8 because bed wetting is normal until 8 or after but now that your dd is hitting puberty it might be time to consider looking into since she hasn't out grown it yet. If it is just a matter of her bladder not maturing the meds might help, if it is a sleep problem perhaps the doctor could send her for a sleep study?

My youngest is a bed wetter and just in the past month or so has managed to start having dry nights. I think he may finally be out growing it. Dh wet the bed until he was 8 or so but even into his early teens would occasionally sleep so heavily that he would wet the bed (it was super rare by then though). I know sleep training/night training can work for some kids and medications can work for some who have gotten older and are very stressed by still needing to wear diapers for bed but I think in many cases all you can do is wait it out.

Take them to the chiro!

I had the same problem with my mdd until I took her until I took her to the chiro. Turns out she had a part of her pelvic bone out of place that would press on her bladder when she layed down. She got adjusted and quit wetting the bed. It got dramatically better after one visit, but took a few visits before she quit entirely.

She is still a very hard sleeper and I know that if she every "wakes up" fussing that she has to pee and i take her to the bathroom. Even then, she is not fully awake and will fuss that I am taking her, but she will pee. I know she will outgrow that, but she has never wet since she was adjusted. According to my chiro, it is very common for kids to have this problem. Take them in to be adjusted and be amazed. Seriously!

I have heard of this. I plan on calling my regular chiro to see if he treats kids. If not, I found one online nearby.

IME, not all chiropractors are created equally...you may want to try a different one (who uses different techniques)

I would recommend using the alarm consistently! I went through that with my now 14 year old. We would do the alarm and we had his bed all ready for him. We would have a plastic liner then a sheet then another plastic liner and another sheet. This way when he had an accident he would take the top layer off and still had clean sheets. The doctor recommended this to us. It worked great. We weren't consistent at first and it didn't work. All of us needed to be ready and then we followed through with it!

We've seen 2... After the second I wasn't going to keep paying an initial visit fee each time we saw someone new. I benefitted greatly from chiro care during pregnancy but haven't seen any results for the baby's reflux, ear infections or my middles bedwetting. It isn't a cure all.

It's a very good question and something we still struggle with and my DD is almost 7. She can stay dry sometimes, it goes in spurts, 3 dry nights, 2 wet, 1 dry, 3 wet etc. We take her to the bathroom when we go to bed almost every night and she has no recollection. She too, is a very deep sleeper. We tried setting her alarm clock to wake her up around 2am to go to the bathroom and it never even made her flinch, she slept right through it. It woke me up, through her closed bedroom door and our closed bedroom door, but didn't phase her at all. I remember occasionally wetting the bed at her age, like once every few months, but not regularly and it always woke me up. If we run out of pull ups and she has to sleep in undies she will be soaked in the morning and she has still slept right through it.

It complicates matters that she is a type 1 diabetic so if she has high blood sugar, that makes her pee even more. Of course we are on top of it, but some nights growth hormones make her blood sugar shoot up around 3-4 in the morning and we can't correct that until she gets up in the morning at 7:30.
