Temp regulation, air flow
I'm not sure if I'll get any responses here, but it seems like the most appropriate place for this.
I just had my daughter at 33 weeks exactly. She's currently on her twelfth day in the NICU. She has a nasal cannula producing normal room air at .5 liters. A minuscule amount. But everytime they attempt to knock it down again, she starts having little bouts of apnea. Additionally, she can't regulate her temp at all. They pulled her out today and my husband did skin to skin with her, but her temp wouldn't go up so she had to go back into her box. Everything else she has tackled like a champ. Yesterday they started her feelings and she was able to take all 37 ounces of breast milk in a bottle. She's very strong, and like I mentioned before has done well with almost no airflow at all. It just seems like these two very tiny issues (which could potentially be a huge deal) are keeping her from progressing any further. At what point should I expect her to be able to regulate her own temp? And the airflow? I feel like she'll never come home. |

![]() Every baby is different. My DD2 & DS were doing those things at 34 weeks gestational age, but didn't come home until 38 weeks (DD2 because of bradycardia) and 41 weeks (DS because of an infection he caught in the NICU).

She just needs time to grow. I know it can be frustrating when things are at a stand still but don't rush her she will do everything in her own time. I know that's not the answer you wanted but it may be closer to your due date before she goes home.

Re: Temp regulation, air flow
Our hospital rule was no open crib until 35 weeks. At the least. For the nasal canula, are you on a machine or wall o2? Caffeine levels? Looks like old post, but I have a 28 weeker if you have any questions..
