Re: If you have bios...
DD was about 18 months old. It took us 14 months and $500 non-refundable to an adoption agency to get pregnant with her, so we chose to foster instead, but only wanted newborns. DS was placed with us as a newborn when DD was 26 months old, and we adopted him when she was 5 and he was 3.
Our experience was so awful that after DS was adopted, we decided not to renew our license. I was unbelievably hard to DD, who didn't know life without DS, when he was reunified with his bios. She was 4 (he was placed with us when she was 26 months old) and grieved him like he died. I will never put her through that again. Luckily for us, he came back and eventually a year later, we were able to adopt him.

Re: If you have bios...
When we first put in our paperwork with the adoption agency my bios were 5 (almost 6) and 3 (turning 4 later that year). We weren't placed with our twins until they were 8 and 5 (turning 6 that year). They were very excited about us getting a baby. We did talk with them about possibly fostering to adopt after we had been waiting a year. My oldest wasn't okay with it. He has high functioning autism and it was too hard for him to be able to handle the possibility of kids coming here and then being reunited with their bio families. We waited longer and found the twins' birth mom. I can't imagine having had it any other way.

Re: If you have bios...
I think we're going to put fostering on the backburner for a while. We recently found out I'm pregnant and I don't think I could handle all that fostering entails while dealing with a squish. Thanks for all the answers though and its probably something we will revisit after we have the bean.
