Step Parent Adoption w/SN 8 year old

DP and I are getting married later this year and he wants to adopt ODS. Ex would sign the papers willingly. I'm just curious if anyone knows what the interview would be like for DS since in Michigan they would do an age appropriate interview with him since he's over 6 years old. But he has comprehension issues so he may likely not understand most of what is said or asked.

Re: Step Parent Adoption w/SN 8 year old

I have no idea either Not much help. BUT I did want to say congrats! My husband adopted my son when we were married but he was under 3 so no interview. His birth father also willingly signed the papers. We didn't have to do a homestudy or anything (we could have but I am glad we didn't I was about to have our first daughter) because when he signed the adoption papers he waived that and the wait.
Wishing you all the best!

Did you figure this out yet? I'm in ak but my dad adopted my older siblings (this was back in the 80s) and all they remember is the judge asking them who do they want to be their dad, and they all said they wanted my bio dad to be their dad over their bio dad (he was very very abusive).

Update: Been a long time coming but things finally worked out and as of this Friday the 21 day waiting period for ex to change his mind is up and we wait on our court date to finalize everything. There were definite bumps in the road but he finally decided to do what was best for DS.
