The brother pe500 is the most affordable beginner machine and it works great.

I would go with this one. I have the smaller one and the 4x4 field is way too small!

I agree. I think u would want atleast a 5x7 hoop. I would actually love a 6x10 but the 5x7 has been great! A 4x4 hoop is so small. I don't think it would be a big enough design for bigger sized shirts.
