help with 4.5 yo still not potty trained!!

My friend is still having a lot of trouble with their 4.5 yo boy going potty AND poop in his pants. they've tried a lot of different options and methods, but still have not been able to consistently get him potty trained. they started PT when he was 2.5 and were fairly successful, a couple of accidents a month. occasionally he'd have multiple accidents in a day. they were able to get him to stop pooping in his pants for almost a year, but now he's completely reverted back to having several accidents a week. they're totally at a loss. they finally had to beg their pedi to send them to a specialist, but that's not till the end of the month. any tips for this family? or any BTBD stories?

TIA!

Were there changes in the home or routine when he regressed? New sibling, change in day care, etc?

over the two years of PT he's welcomed a new baby and gone from part-time daycare to no daycare. mom says at daycare he almost never had accidents. he returned to daycare for a week when the mom was on a trip, not once did he have an accident. now that he's been back home, it's been several times a day.

Re: help with 4.5 yo still not potty trained!!

It could be due to the new baby and jealousy/trying to get mom's attention.
It could also be because of other differences between home and day care, such as the amount of fluids he consumes. For example, my DD1 was day and nighttime potty trained for over 6 months when she started wetting the bed again the summer she turned 4. I was off from work, allowing her to stay up later, and allowing her to drink more fluids because of the summer heat. I went back to work that September, we got into our old dinner and bedtime routine, and the accidents stopped.

I know it sounds weird but maybe try a chiropractor. My friend's little brother was having potty training issues and after they took him to a chiro he never had an accident again. I'm not saying it'll be a cure-all, and his situation sounds a bit different. But for my friend's brother it was that his lower back wasn't aligned properly.

Re: help with 4.5 yo still not potty trained!!

My son turns 4 next week and is doing exactly as you described. Back to pooping in his underwear, and wetting his pants multiple times a day if you don't set a timer and remember to take him. Frustrating me (and his teachers at school) like crazy.

No advice. But it sucks!

Changes in life I bet. My oldest was basically ok but some accidents then we moved & we reverted too and that was about 3 yrs old for her. My in laws said there will be reverting & I'm glad to have known. I don't think specialist needed from info u gave. I know my 23 month kinda got started into being like I want to wear those panties then brother came & now we are good to poo & pee like he does...sometimes interested in potty. Some say go without pants for day....

I hear boys do take longer. I know I have heard few stories of some being that age or older being hard to potty train/late ones.
