Re: placenta encapsulation...

I am really thinking about doing it. I have a dehydrator I just don't know how I would get it home without it spoiling.

The hospital just gave me mine in a hazardous waste bag and we put it in a cooler.

yep... called the hospital today to see if there was anything I needed to fill out beforehand and they're like 'just tell us when you check in and bring a cooler with ice'

that seems strange.. I'm sorry they're being strict with it.

Re: placenta encapsulation...

The hospital I'm delivering at also just hands it over to you without question.

I am pretty sure I'm doing it... I have the paperwork ready, but I just have to be sure it's ok with a history of hashimoto's (autoimmune thyroid).

if anyone knows about that... I'd love to hear from you also

Re: placenta encapsulation...

I did it with my last, and would do it again in a heartbeat, EVERYTHING postpartum just went so much better than my first, and I think I attribute a lot of it to my encapsulated placenta.

It seriously astounds me that some hospitals won't allow you your own placenta I did not know that.

According to them it is a law in Texas, because here it is considered bio-hazard waste. So you have to have a court order to have it released.
This has never been the case in any other state I have lived in. Some had a form you filled out , and others you told them and made arrangements to either have a cooler or someone to take it away right away.

Re: placenta encapsulation...

I could tell a huge difference. My husband could too, and got to a point where he'd ask if I'd taken my placenta pills if I was getting grumpy. Nothing but good things to say about it!

Re: placenta encapsulation...

I plan on encapsulating mine. When I asked my MW about it, she acted like it was totally normal and said the hospital should hand it over, since it is mine and all. She even referred me to a local organization that teaches a class on how to do it yourself, since I told her I was planning to do my own. It was really nice that she didn't think it was weird at all.
