returned package

I mailed a Medium FRB to my SIL/BIL with some clothes, etc. They had just moved in to a new apartment complex. They had been there about 2 days when the box should have arrived. They didn't get it and it was eventually returned to me. I thought maybe I had misadressed it - but NO, the address was CORRECT! Is there anyway to get USPS to refund my money? I want my $15 back! Especially since I'm going to have to repackage it and mail it back again. (They wrote all over the box it was in...)

Re: returned package

I would probably take it back in to the po and tell them this was the correct address (bring proof)

Re: returned package

Did they turn in a change of addresss or a "we get mail here" form so the mailman knew they were the new residents?

Re: returned package

What kind of proof can I have to show that it's the right address??

I think they did say that they had to fill out some paper in their mailbox - but what is that about?

Re: returned package

Yeah usually when someone moves out and changes thir address FROM a location the mailman puts a little form in the mailbox, then the new residents fill it out with their names and such.... I would take it back to the po and make them re-mail it, and maybe have your family double check with their local po to make sure they are recognized as the resdents

I've had this happen. Bring it to the post office, explain that the address on the package is absolutely correct, and they *should* reship it on their dime.

Re: returned package

Thanks guys - you give me hope! So I should leave it in the original box even though they wrote all over it? It has Undeliverable, and return to sender written in marker in a few places...

Yes.

I'm guessing that it was mis-delivered by the post office to begin with, which it was why it was returned to sender.

Re: returned package

Thanks for your help guys. I went and re-sent it today, and the PO took it no problem, just used stickers to cover all the writing, etc. So lets hope the delivery person gets it right this time!
