I did fin out our contract was online and looked. It says 12 months maternity. I gave birth in feb. does that seem weird to come back in middle of the year? I emailed our HR person to ask if she can give me any more info on that. If if I'd have to come back in the middle of the school year I wonder how likely they would be to approve it. We will see what she says I guess. I'm almost afraid to check my work email next week. Lol

Re: Teachers - leave of absense?

I live in Michigan and have taken 5 years maternity leave. I think it depends on your union and your teaching contract as to how leaves of absence are handled. We have a strong union that advocates for maternity leave for moms.

Re: Teachers - leave of absense?

I was an SLP in my small school district and after my year of LWOP I have resigned, but the district was very flexible and supportive of me and my family. I agree with teachermama in that it should be written out very specifically in your contract. And, even in my little district, the contract was available for me to look at through the district's webpage. Good luck!!

Wow, that's nuts. I think my district only allows a year.

Most employers don't give loa at all, so appreciate any you get.

Anything you ask HR should be held confidential regardless of the size of the school district.
