pricing WAHM diapers?

I want to start making diapers. I just do not know where to price them? I know WAHM made diapers are more expensive, but how much do people tend to make off their diapers? how long does it take a WAHM to make a diaper? what does it equal out to per hour after deducting material costs??
thanks!!!

Re: pricing WAHM diapers?

I suggest that you begin to work out the cost to you of all your materials (include wear and tear on your machine, power etc), figure the time that it takes you to make each diaper (include taking pictures, cropping, touch up, uploading photos, listing online etc) and then add in listing fees and any other sellers fees.

What do you reckon is a reasonable hourly rate for your time?

Calculate the total cost to you = costs + fees + (time x hourly rate). Now consider what percentage profit you want to make - or how much per diaper and add that to your cost. This will give you a price to put on each diaper. A buyer will also have to pay postage costs.

If you haven't made many diapers before, then you will also have to spend time honing your skills. You will also have to either buy a pattern (more costs) or design your own and then test the design.

You should also get people to test your fabric/design/workmanship combination to make sure that you have a good quality product. This takes time.

Re: pricing WAHM diapers?

I usually expect to pay around 20 for an average diaper, about 30 for an extraordinary one. Anything more would make me not want to buy.

Don't be upset if after this calculation you end up with either the price that is too high or your hourly wage lower that min. in the country.

See if you want to browse etsy, look for the similar items and go with the price you can live with.

Re: pricing WAHM diapers?

sorry to be a downer, but I would not expect to make minimum wage as a beginning WAHM. I'd be happy to just break out even. Its all about experimenting with your skills, times, products, avenues to sell, etc.

there is a huge selection for WAHM diapering products so your best bet is to start out, offer some testers and get some feedback, research and go from there. its one of those things you have to find out on your own for the most part.
