X box kinect. DO I need a controller?

Hi everyone. My son is having a birthday soon, and we are considering getting a kinect system for him. WE do not have a xbox.
What all do I need in order to play with kinect games?

Obviously a tv and a wall outlet.

XBox system
kinect sensor
games to go with kinect

DO I need a remote too to choose games etc when I start up the xbox?

Yes, but it should come with one controller out of the box.

Yes, it is helpful because the sensor can be a pain. With a remote it's easier to use as a DVD player too. Also you can stream Netflix and Amazon Prime through it. A new console should come with one remote.

We had one and ended up selling it. The kinect is terrible at sensing kids. It would loose my daughter all the time. It was a big waste of money for us. Sorry to be a downer.

We have a kinect. The sensor is not always accurate. My couch beat me at Just Dance 3. Twice.

I would recommend a controller along with the kinect (the voice control is pretty cool though, but doesn't cover everything yet) and as mentioned above, any system should come with at least one controller!
