Re: Preggo Twin Mama Buddy Group!

My Mom brought up a good point today... the hospital near me is very natural (which I LOVE), and she said if the babies were born a tad early, the hospital here may go the extra mile to make sure they stay here. They may allow more skin-to-skin, nursing, and do whatever they can to keep them with me or in the nursery, before resorting to sending them to the NICU in the next city.

It seems with a lot of moms that deliver at a hospital with a NICU, if there are any minor problems, they are immediately taken to NICU. Especially for weight gain. You would think that a baby can be monitored for weight gain just as easy at mom's bedside with frequent nursing sessions, than in the NICU in a solitary bed, receiving milk through a bottle or tube, and staying there until some weight is gained.

That is something to think about, too. SO much to take in.

It sucks right now, but with my history of PTL there was no way I was chancing it at the country hospital. Now watch me go to 39wks or something crazy like that!
I hope you can come to a decision that gives you peace.
Hubby thinks I should wait until they notice something, like contractions, or a shortened cervix, or something like that. I really DO want to deliver here, because they nurses are great, and the midwives advocate so well for natural (or more natural) birthing and to help you avoid a C-section. I honestly suppose if I did go into spontaneous labor, that I could drive myself to the other hospital and asked to get delivered there because of their NICU.

Hubby also said, if I am worried about it so much, I need to start acting like it at home. I do a lot, but I kind of have to. He said if you really want to stay local, get as far as you can to full term, and not need the NICU or other hospital, you need to start doing pretty much nothing during the day. I agree. While I would love to stay active, if going early means chaos for keeping our family together, having hubby visit in the hospital while still going to work since he has limited time off, I need to be more cautious. I'm just NOT use to all this, my other pregnancies I just do whatever until 38 weeks, then I work on helping labor start. This is just so different. Sorry for my vent, I'm also 10x more emotional than my other pregnancies, too!

Re: Preggo Twin Mama Buddy Group!

Lesa - Thinking of you and sweet baby Colton!

Dani - Oh my word!! I cannot even imagine!! Poor Grace and poor you! How super scary! I hope they're still doing ok. Man, what is up with her DH?? Ahhh!! I bet your BP was high, I'd be FTFO!

Rachel - If I were you, I'd ask the hospital you want to deliver at (smaller one) how far along you need to be to deliver there and then make alternate plans just in case with the other hospital/OBs. Usually, if they feel delivery is imminent or unavoidable before they could handle care of the babies, they'll transport you over to the bigger hospital. Even if it happened to fast for you to go over before they're born, you can demand transport with the babies or check yourself out AMA and go over. No one could possibly expect you to just let your babies go over and be apart from you! The hospital I'm delivering at will take babies born at 30 weeks and later and they're a level II NICU. Really glad to have made it past that point!

AFM - Doing pretty good. Had my third and final appointment for the week with one of the new OBs. Really liked her. She encouraged me to not schedule a c-section because she's pretty confident that as long as baby A stays head down they'll be able to deliver both babies vaginally. Feeling better about that. Still just 1-2 cm dilated which is great! Other than that, not much is new, just chugging along, trying to get as much time in as we can before they get here. Can't believe they'll be here in 32 days or less!!

We just got back in town from picking my older kids up and visiting with family. Thank you for the condolences. Colton is doing well and I am thankful to be off bedrest. I am hoping he flips though so I can have another VBAC.

Re: Preggo Twin Mama Buddy Group!

Had contractions yesterday, and uncomfortable cramping today. Almost went in last night but they spaced out to 10-15 minutes apart (they were 5-7) and then mostly went away last night. They were not 'regular' contractions, the painful kinds I'm used to, they were most like just tightening's, but I could tell they were regular and got a little worried. Cramping today started while grocery shopping, sigh.

Looks like I will need to take it really easy, and I'm thinking the entire month of August (Weeks 30-34) I really need to put myself on bedrest, not go anywhere, in hopes of getting to 34+ and delivering in September. I've always had this weird feeling I'm going to go early, but hoping it's just a creepy, weird feeling that will go away. Very happy to be 24+, and hoping to eat 3,000+ calories per day, and do limited movement for the next few weeks, with the goal of my next appointment in mind (just shy of 28 weeks, our next growth ultrasound). Little baby steps for me.

Re: Preggo Twin Mama Buddy Group!

To all you twin mamas, first so exciting to listen to your progress. Love visiting this post.

Here is the question, how many weeks are you? Then how many weeks are you actually measuring? And how tall are you, and small or larger frame?
:O)
