Blackberry jam is too sweet!

I followed a bogus recipe for our wonderful blackberries that said 1c of sugar per cup of berries. I did 2.5 for 3. It's unbelievably, almost awfully, sweet. I need to use the jam within a few days. Any ideas of what we can do with the jam that doesn't involve spreading it on bread? Even my 5 year old said it was too sweet.

How about a blackberry fool dessert? Don't add any sugar to the whipped cream.

Re: Blackberry jam is too sweet!

Try mixing in some lemon juice to the jam it may cut the sweetness enough that you can finish eating the batch as jam. You would probably need to reboil to thicken before processing. You might also try something like an apple/berry crunch as a dessert where you'd mix in the jam with the sliced apples before putting on the topping. At the same time I'd probably substitute ground nuts (walnut, almond or pecan) for at least 1/2 the sugar in the topping. You need some sugar in it to get the "crunch" in the topping.
