Re: Extended breastfeeding and the benefits

Full term breastfeeding is something I never thought I would do, I just thought it wasn't for me. until I went to Breastfeeding USA meeting and saw a couple of moms doing. It wasn't so weird and they and their toddler clearly loved it. Now I can't wait.

Re: Extended breastfeeding and the benefits

Awesome! In many countries, breastfeeding a toddler is the norm. We need to support more mothers to trust their instincts when it comes to breastfeeding. The US culture stinks at this-from maternity leave to ample resource groups to it being accepted to nurse when and where your child needs it...In the last few years, MA has passed a law that it is perfectly legal to breastfeed your child in public. How ridiculous that we need a law for that. On the other hand, it keeps people in check who may ask a nursing mother to go to the bathroom or her car to nurse. Thanks for posting.

Re: Extended breastfeeding and the benefits

THANKYOU FOR THIS!
My dh wasn't nursed. His mom had 5 kids, and bottle fed them all. My hrandma had 6 kids and bottlefed them all as well. My mom bf'd my older sister til she was like 4/5 but then weaned me at 2, and my little brother at 9 months. (It was a HORRIBLE experience for everyone) I plan on Bfing my son until he weans himself. Though my dh thinks its wrong.

Breastfeeding my almost 13 month old as I type. Baby led weaning all the way. He eats table food and some baby food still as well. A growing boy!

So lucky to stumble across this thread! Everybody I know basically is against extended bfing, but I'd like to continue for a while yet... ds is only 7mos now so we'll see how it goes but apparently, since he still asks to nurse about every hour when awake, he loves nursing! If I can win DH over then I'm good to go. I guess my only concern is that I'd like to get pregnant again sometime soonish, but I do know the Lord's in control there, as ever. Anyway this was so encouraging!

Re: Extended breastfeeding and the benefits

I would love to breastfeed my LO (currently 3 months) for as long as I could but we want to get pregnant within a year or so with our second one. It was so hard to get pregnant the first time that we want to give ourselves as much of an advantage as possible. I plan to EBF until 6 months but then slowly start to ween him off. Do you think that I'm doing my LO a disservice?
