Potty learning and carpets

Just curious how others with carpets did potty learning time? My 20 month old is showing interest, I ask if she needs to potty and put her on but I've heard letting them naked helps, however I don't want our carpet to smell like pee if she has several accidents, etc nor do I want to scrub carpet often. It's all new to us so just exploring different ideas.

That was our problem a few months ago. So we ended up buying one small carpet cleaner to take care of the accidents and clean stains immediately and hire a professional carpet cleaner when necessary. Goodluck!

Underpants worn under pull-ups. They know right away when they have had an accident, yet the accident is completely contained .

Dd has just started telling me when she needs to poop by signing potty and running to her potty so that works well, hasn't peed on potty yet so I don't think she is there yet for that which is fine. Thanks for ideas, will keep in mind for future.

This is a good idea...We've just been cleaning the carpets here too. It's frustrating, but I don't know what else to do either.

Stock up on enzyme cleaner! We've had quite a few pee misses on our carpet and haven't had issues with smell.

Re: Potty learning and carpets

I was just wondering the same thing. Would love to do EC/potty training, but most of our apartment is carpeted. Since we rent, I'm loathe to have too many accidents. As far as how to clean up pee: we have cats who have peed on the carpets, so I second the suggestion for getting enzyme cleaners from the pet store!

Re: Potty learning and carpets

I will be honest and say it didnt' happen at our house. We had all carpet and that just completely grosses me out.

I tried once and after scrubbing my carpets multiple times a day and knowing that it was there I couldn't handle it. So naked time didn't happen till my kids have a good grasp on not peeing on the floor.

At 20 months--no way no how.

We ended up ripping out our carpet a year later and it complete grossed me out the stains on the underside just from the few times we tried it.
