Re: How far do you live from your hospital?

When I had DD, I lived 2 1/2 hours away from my OB and from the hospital. I had some complications at one of my last check up's towards the end and he sent me to the hospital (so I didn't end up having to worry about the 2 1/2 drive in labor), but the drive back home was AWFUL.

With DS I lived an hour away from the hospital. This time around, I'm only maybe ten-fifteen minutes from the hospital.

Closest ER is 15 minutes. My hospital is 30 minutes. Closest NICU is 40 minutes.

Re: How far do you live from your hospital?

5 blocks away, a family of hospitals (women's, children's, regular), including the one I delivered and will deliver at. We walked to the hospital while I was in labor with my first. I still can't believe I did that. What should have taken less than 10 minutes took about 30

Why was the trip back home so bad? Painful?
I've obviously never given birth but the hospital I would prefer is an hour and 45 minutes away, so I'm definitely curious about the long drive.

Re: How far do you live from your hospital?

It was really painful for me, I cried most of the way back home. It could have just been from the complication I'd had that I was already in extra pain and still weak. But, I'd hate to go through that again.

My hour drive with my DS was a LOT better, only hurt a little (primarily when I was on the 5 mile dirt road to my house at the time).

So, that doesn't necessarily mean it will be a bad drive for you, don't let my experience scare you, lol

Re: How far do you live from your hospital?

Our nearest hospital is about an hour if you drive like a bat outta hell. Our hospital is about an hour and a half. We're out in the boonies haha. But there are lots of babies born in this town every year, and I haven't heard of any car births yet so I'm not at all worried. There is a small clinic not set up for any major work but they do have a helicopter pad so worst case senario is life flight.
