Congested 5 month old

My son has been a bit congested for maybe a week. I was putting eucalyptus oil under his nose and it seemed to be helping but not for long.

Earlier today I tried:
a nasal syring
sucking it out with my mouth
home made vapo-rub

Still congested. I was thinking of trying a bath when his sister is napping

I have a Nosefrida but I can't seem to find the tube portion so I'm unable to use it

Open to suggestions. I hate hearing my poor little guy so congested

Have you tried putting a few saline drops in his nose then trying the syringe? This has always worked for us. Good luck !

I would run a hot shower to get the air a little steamy, then give him a nice warm bath like you said. I'd use the nose sucker afterwards. It should loosen up some.

Poor guy, it's so hard to see them so uncomfortable

I would put the eucalyptus in a carrier oil and rub on his feet and add some lavendar if you have it. It works well!

I have a 5 month old as well and this is what we've been doing for the last week or so. It helps tremendously.

Re: Congested 5 month old

We used the baby saline spray (I know, it's commercial, not homemade). DD hated it, but it worked really well. That, and a nice steamy bath were the best...I'd even try putting some of the eucalyptus oil in some steamy water while he's in the bath to really loosen stuff up. We had some lavender aromatherapy bath oil when DD was a baby & it worked really well. Follow that with the homemade vapo-rub & the syringe & hopefully he'll feel better. I know it was tough to have DD so uncomfortable & not be able to do a thing about it.

Are you breastfeeding? When my babies were congested while they were EBF, I would drink quarts of fenugreek tea. It is a decongestant (it will increase your milk supply, be warned!) and they'll get it through the milk.

Re: Congested 5 month old

Yes, I'm breastfeeding but I stay away from Fennugreek. I use Blessed Thistle. I was told Fennugreek is being blacklisted bc of the effects it can have on your mental state. I know it has done some horrendous things to a friend of mine as well as myself.

Yesterday I tried a hot shower with some home-made vicks discs in there with us followed by that homemade vapo rub but hes still a bit congested.

I thinking of trying the feet thing and then the saline drops later if I get nowhere.

Definitely going to try to get him in another hot shower with mommy.

Really? I have never heard that, I guess I need to do some more research, I make tons of fenugreek tea when my kids are sick :/ Hope your little one gets feeling better soon, I've been congested for 2 weeks, it's absolutely no fun

I can't find anything about mental side effects but I did find reports that fenugreek causes nasal congestion. So its interesting that you use it as a decongestant.
