litocane and breastfeeding...
I am sure someone here has had the litocane and breastfed thing before. What did you do? Did you pump and dump? If so for how long?
I am being de-ported tomorrow (ports are normally used for chemo uses... I have had mine in for about 4 years now) and they will use Litocane when they remove it. I thought litocane was safe to take when BF but they told me that I would have to pump and dump for 8 hours! ![]() I should also mention that my son is underweight for his age (3 months old 9 lbs 10 oz). He also has a milk protein allergy and tolerates Allimentum okay. I honestly think he does better with mama milk then the formula. I have some breast milk that he can drink (about 4-5 oz) but I was planning on saving that for when I have my CT scan in December (I know I have to pump and dump for that for 12 hours). Advertisement

I have never heard of lidocaine causing BF issues. If Kellymom said it's okay, I'd go with that. My OB prescribed lidocaine for me for home use, and never warned about BF.
Maybe someone can link to Hale's? |

Re: litocane and breastfeeding...
lidocaine is considered a "topical" anesthetic and is used during dental procedures. Here they talk about the use of lidocaine. http://www.infantrisk.com/forum/show...ight=lidocaine It recommends waiting between 1 1/2-3 hours. So if you nurse right before your procedure, you'll probably be fine by the time baby is ready for their next nursing session.

Re: litocane and breastfeeding...
I was thinking more about this and I am going to have my son have an "ear tag" removed before the end of the year (waiting on his doctor to say he has enough reserve to do it). They will use litocane for that procedure. I am not sure why I am worried about this now.

Re: litocane and breastfeeding...
I had it to remove a suspicious mole on my breast about 6 wks after I had DS- they wouldn't do it while I was preg but Dias it was fine while bfing. Told me if I was worried to feed just before procedure- then dump the time after; then I should be fine.

They use lidocaine to numb moms for episiotomy repair so I'm not sure why they would make it an issue now? If a newborn can handle it I'm sure your ds can.
I hope it all goes well ![]()
