Tell me about your favorite wipes

I have scads of scrap fabrics I want to make wipes out of, and I'm conflicted as to what I want to use. My old wipes are just double layer, serged flannel. They're fine, but I don't love them. However, I have TONS of flannel, so it's the most obvious choice. I also have this random fabric from Walmart that pretty much looks like a thin thermal knit. I'm thinking the texture might be really effective for cleaning. In addition to those, I have a few small scraps of OBV, lots of cotton velour, minky, and assorted other odds and ends.

So, with those options, which do you think would work best for wipes?

To work with what you have I would say go with the flannel and cotton velour. The cotton velour is soft against the skin and has a nice glide factor when when. It has enough texture to get all of the poop off.

My favorite are two layers of cotton velour. They clean so well that I could always clean up a poo with one wipe.

When DS was itty-bitty, I preferred single layer flannel because it seemed easier to get into tiny skin folds, and lots of them fit into our wipes warmer. I also folded them to overlap so I could use a sposie pop-up container.

Later, we liked flannel/cotton velour. More substantial for thicker poo, and the smooth flannel side was still great for pee changes.

Re: Tell me about your favorite wipes

Where did you get your cotton velour? Were you able to find it in a local fabric store or did you have to order it online? I was also wondering about the best material for wipes because I have a TON of flannel, too, but thought they seemed too smooth for getting tough poops off the butt. All the disposable wipes have some sort of texture to them to help scrub. I'll be curious to know what you end up using and how it works.

This exactly. I make mine about 4.5" x 7.5". Know some people like them bigger, but it's a perfect size for me. No folding and they stack up perfectly in a wipes container.

Terry cloth also works well.

Re: Tell me about your favorite wipes

When you make these, do you put any kind of solution in the wipes container or are they dry? I want to try cloth wipes along with my CD stash but I guess I thought that just meant using them dry and also not warmed (I'm a newbie!)

Personally, I store my wipes dry in a basket. Also in the basket is a peri bottle I keep filled with water and a tiny squirt of a baby body wash. I just wet the wipes as I go.

ETA: lots of people reuse a sposie wipe container and wet the wipes with some sort of wipe solution, or wet the wipes and keep them in a warmer. I just like having lots of dry wipes around the house for snotty noses, little spit ups, etc.
