Question What Did You Need The First Month?

I posted this in adoption but I'm hoping I will get more responses here:

I will be adopting a newborn and have to stay put for 21 days after placement. I have some baby stuff here and some at my parents' house (in Ontario). Since I want to make sure I have everything organized where it needs to be (I can only moved stuff in summer so I need to have everything organized for summer).

I will be living either my apartment here, or a hotel room for the first month and then moving to Ontario so I don't want to have too much stuff but I do want anything I will need.

I have a complete newborn cloth diaper stash that I will probably bring here this summer (currently at my parents' house). I am thinking of getting the Peg Perego Book Pop Up (coming out before summer) because it has a bassinet so it will be very functional. I'll also get the Peg Perego 4-35 car seat at the same time.

What did you need the first month? What can I wait to get in Ontario/leave in Ontario?

TIA!

Re: What Did You Need The First Month?

I actually got rid of all my Baby stuff so if I were to start over again I would do the following off the top of my head

I cosleep but you can do a pack n Play with bassinett insert or a cosleeper
2-3 swaddlers or swaddle blankets
6 sleep n Play
6 season appropriate onsies
2 or 3 full Outfits
a pack of socks
a pair of leather crib shoes
Andy seasonal wear- hats, coats ect
Moby wrap
blanket for the pram
pram (personal preference)
bucket seat

I like this list!! Since you are buying a stroller with a bassinet, baby can sleep in that. I used mine like that a lot with my last baby, around the house, camping, picnics, wherever.

Re: What Did You Need The First Month?

First off, CONGRATS!!! Adoption is a beautiful thing

Newborn babies need very little; food, warmth, and love I would not want to haul a stroller, bassinet, or pacnplay personally. I prefer wraps when babies are small and for sleeping I would buy a cheap moses basket for like 30 bucks and have baby cosleep in that, and then you can easily bring that with you if you go somewhere.

1.Carseat
2.Moses basket (my friend actually used a small laundry basket with a soft pad in the bottom with all of her 6 kids)
3. A wrap or carrier
4. 12 sleepers (I would not bother with outfits, buy a couple extra cute sleepers if you want)
5. 6-12 onsies
6. 6 pair socks, 1 hat, 1 set mitts
7. 4 swaddle blankets, 3 light and one warmer
8. 6 to 10 bottles
9. Diaper bag/ bag of some sort.

Thanks guys!

I can't co sleep because I move a lot, need lots of blankets to sleep, and sleep with my dog lol.

I have some clothes but I will have to get more.

I really don't want to lug a ton of stuff back to Ontario so this helps a lot!

I used a lot of receiving blankets. Work great for spit ups, as blankets, swaddled, nursing covers, changing pads! Very versatile!

Bottles/bottle cleaner

Diapers/wipes/rash cream

I preferred pants/onesies/socks

Nail clippers

Safe bed/Blankets/1-2 swaddlers

At home a rocking chair

Car seat

I like baby carriers for kids 1 1/2 and younger/or stroller

Towel/wash cloth/baby soap/lotion

They really don't need much, just good clean diapers and snuggles <3

Congrats!!!
