Restarting nursing? Is this possible?

I am wondering if any one has successfully done this. My situation is different than what I've read about. I nursed my girl until 17 months when she self weaned. My child has very complex medical needs and has recently had to start enfagrow toddler formula.so after exclusively breastfeeding all that time I'm giving my toddler formula! She is going on 22 months now. I am kind of wishing I could bust out my breast pump and pump her a bottle or 2 every day instead of buying formula. Not sure if that's possible after nearly 6 months. Has anyone done this for a toddler? Not willing to try latching her on as she is now sleeping all night. She woke every 2 - 3 hours nearly the entire time we nursed. We can't go back to that !

Yup, it's totally possible. Once you've lactated, you are able to again for the rest of your life if adequate stimulation happens. It generally takes a few days before lactation returns, but it can and will. Slightly more difficult with a breast pump rather than an actual child, though, so just be aware of that. But if you start pumping regularly, chances are in 1-3 days you'll be getting results.

Interesting. I'm still getting drops of milk now even 6 months after quitting. I hope it works, update us either way!

Re: Restarting nursing? Is this possible?

I've helped a mom do this. She needed some herbal and acupuncture help, but she did relactate enough to supplement (and she'd not nursed for over 18 months). 6 months is not that long in the scheme of things. Good luck!
