What can you use in the wash to have a fresh smelling diaper. I have some inserts that really stink when DS pees in them. I think the smell must be in the fabric, cause that doesn't happen with all of them. Mainly the hemp inserts are the worst. Any help is much appreciated!!

Re: Fresh smelling diapers
I've tried 1/3 cup of baking soda in the wash and 1/4 cup of vinegar in the first rinse. That usually does the trick. If one or two inserts are still stinky, I'll set those aside and remember to boil them for about 15 minutes after they've been washed. Hope this helps...

Re: Fresh smelling diapers
If the hemp inserts don't have snaps you can boil them or you can add a pan of boiling water to the rinse cycle. Also, calgon in the wash REALLY helps our hemp because it makes sure everything washes clean.

Re: Fresh smelling diapers
Sounds like build up. I would wash in really hot with dawn till you don't see any bubbles. Then If you can line dry them in the sun to freshen them up.

Re: Fresh smelling diapers
Thanks Ladies. I am going to try several of your suggestions. Something is bound to work! They don't necessarily stink before they get wet, but after.....whewwhie!! LOL!

Re: Fresh smelling diapers
yeah, if they smell immediately after getting wet then it's most likely build-up. if you can't boil them, you can add boiling water to your washing machine as it fills to make the water hotter. or turn up your hot water heater (don't forget to turn it down). sunning also helps a lot to freshen things too.
you might also want to try running a few washes w/o any soap. |

Re: Fresh smelling diapers
I don't have any hemp right now, so I don't have any smell issues, but I love using 1-2 drops of TTO in each wash, just another idea.
