Re: Baby carriers for wearing on the back?
Mei Tai are my favorite carrier. you can do back, hip, front carry with it and it is very easy to use and comfortable. i highly recommend them to anyone. I got mine from www.freehandbaby.com

Re: Baby carriers for wearing on the back?
I had a BabyHawk MT (sadly we lost it
) and we loved it. It worked well for back carries, though the long straps are a pain to deal with when out in public trying to get it all together. We recently got a NG Ergo and it's great! I'm really small framed and it's a little awkward at first, but it is so much more comfortable on my shoulders now that my son is 20+ pounds. My husband also really prefers the look of the Ergo.FYI - You can get a used NG Ergo at www.myfavoritebabycarrier.com for $78 (includes shipping). We bought ours from this company. The MT's I've made have wrap-style straps and they are quite comfy! I wonder why DD fights it so much.. she leans back and it's scary

Re: Baby carriers for wearing on the back?
I LOVE my onbu! (full word is onbuhimo) It's like a mei tai but has rings at the bottom instead of straps. It's so easy to get on and off and it's comfy to wear too! I wear DD in the front or back all the time.

Re: Baby carriers for wearing on the back?
I use my MT a lot for a back carry, but I'm trying to get it down for a wrap. Still need LOTS of practice!

Re: Baby carriers for wearing on the back?
Thank you, thank you everyone for your replies! This has been sooo helpful to me! I've been purusing the babywearer site all morning. Wow, that site is chock full of great info - it's overwhelming (in a good way). :-)
I decided to buy the Ergo. I had looked at it a week or so ago but was a little intimiated by the price tag. Thank you Cicily for the link and info about purchasing used ones - I ended up buying from there since I can get it so quickly. We're going hiking on Friday so I'm glad to be able to try it out this week! I think Ergo will be good for hiking since it doesn't have any straps that hang down and could drag in the mud, etc. I hope it will be a good carrier for us! DH was more fond of the look of the ergo than a MT so hopefully we'll each get use out of it. Thanks again for your quick and very helpful replies. I bookmarked all the sites everyone mentioned for future reference!

Re: Baby carriers for wearing on the back?
I love mei tais. I also love my wrap (gypsy mama) but, I can't make it work on my back.
I have a babyhawk, and while I love how Babyhawks look, it just doesn't fit me very well. It's hard to explain, but it isn't as comfey as my homemade FrankenKozy. |
