How long until Oatmeal Kicks In?
I'm suffering from a dwindling supply I fear and started to eat oatmeal a couple of times a day (good news is that it's really cheap!) - how long should it take until I see a difference? I'm also pumping every 3-4 hrs when at work (2 times a week) and nursing dd on demand.
I've got some underlying medical issues so I wanted to try and fix this naturally if I could. Does anyone know if mother's milk tea has anything in it that would be scary to take with other medicines? Thanks in advance! |

Re: How long until Oatmeal Kicks In?
you should see a response from oatmeal within a day or two.
Mother's milk tea contains fenugreek which should be used with caution if you are diabetic as it can make your sugars dip. Check out Kellymom about it as there is a lot of information about other reasons why you might want to avoid it (but it does work great if you are exempt from these): http://www.kellymom.com/herbal/milks...fenugreek.html When I was BFing my ds I ate ice cream a lot and it increased my supply--the full fat kind. Anything with high fat helps supply but dairy can also contribute. HTH

Re: How long until Oatmeal Kicks In?
Here are a couple of other resources you may find helpful:
www.lowmilksupply.org http://www.mobimotherhood.org/MM/default.aspx If you are looking for lactogenic foods, rather than herbals or medications, here are a couple things along those lines. -I didn't see an increase with instant packets of oatmeal. But, when I started eating 2 bowls of steel cut oats (w/ brown sugar and milk) a day, I think it helped. -I also drank Caffix (barley coffee substitute.) I drank at least 2 cups a day (double strength.) -I read the idea that Metamucil can help boost supply. I didn't read that until I was past the point of trying to increase my supply. But, I have read some raves about it. What could it hurt? Worst case scenario, it keeps you regular. Good luck.
