It's not like you left her to go do something, it was an accident and you were there the whole time. You're NOT a horrible mom. We all make mistakes. Just give her hugs and know that you're both okay.

How terrifying for you. I'm such a space cadet sometimes, that is one of my fears...especially on a hot day.

I've done it before!
I was actually watching my cousin who was only a one months old, and my DD was 11mths old. My mom threw her purse in the trunk of my car, not knowing that I put the car keys in the purse.
My Door was open, but I needed to run into the house, so I shut the door not knowing the doors were on lock.
We freaked out. My DD started crying, which made me cousin start crying.
My mom called the fire department, they came with the WHOLE gang!
I kept thinking...OMG..if my aunts comes back now she would just DIE!

They were very nice. Both my mom and I were crying. Got the door open within a few minutes. No Charge.
Now we check the locks ALL THE TIME!!!

hugs mama! My son locked himself in the car just the other day. he climbed in, locked the doors, then buckled himself in. he was in the garage still, but i was freaking out! Of course dh had the spare keys and he was a few hours away. Luckily ds is 3, and i talked him through unbuckling himself and unlocking the door. Sheesh i was freaked out though. I think it happens to most of us at some point!

Oh honey, you're not the first nor the last parent to accidentally lock their keys and their kid in the car, nor are you going to be the last. Even in the heat, it's not that big a deal so long as your LO isn't left in there too long and you did exactly the right thing to make sure that didn't happen.
