Thanks Mamas. I realized today that it's been just recently and I think it's due to all the bubble baths he's had lately. So no more bubbles for a while. I think he might have excema (or something like that) too and it's been worse too.

Great tips so far. I don't know the age of your DS, my second still wears diapers at night. If he wets and leaves it on his tip gets irritated. I have to be on a careful watch. Don't know if this applies are not. Vaseline, antiboitic ointment both work great.

i would use lansinoh. *if* you choose to use an antibiotic ointment, use bacitracin and not neosporin. its better for genitals.

the shiny flakiness could be yeast though, that someone else mentioned. liquid acidophilus (available at natural or health food stores) would be good for that.

DS1 is 4 and basically potty trained - still a few accidents here and there.

It's probably dryng out and flaking because what is supposed to be an internal organ has been made external. Like if someone removed your eyelids, your eyes would dry out, kwim? I think the PPs have good advice, about not using lotion but something lanolin-based. I also think you're onto something when you say the bubble baths may be contributing to the irritation. and hoping your DS gets some relief soon.

DS has never had this problem so I would take him to the doctor. It may be an infection?
