What causes under eye circles?

Yep! Most likely allergies. Is his belly distended? or any other issues, like eczema?

She has eczema... and slight allergy's.. but she really never has had this problem before.. I just recently quit giving her naps.. and she is soooo picky eater too.. but she does take vitamins and drinks water alot.. I was worried it was like a sign of diabetes.. it runs in our family! I will take her in for her checkup next month and ask about it... unless it gets worse I will go sooner! Thanks for all the info.. gonna make sure her vits have iron in them too!

genetic and allergies. Dark under-eye circles are a tell-tale sign of bad allergies/sinus problems. DH and I both have them, and my DD had them practically from three months old.

Everyone in my family has dark circles, ours are totally genetic. I've had mine as long as I can remember. I remember being self conscious about them in 1st grade.

I've always had dark circles, and am quite healthy... they seem to run in the family.

But I'm glad to hear that you plan to have her checked for diabetes. I was questioning that b/c my 7 year old sister was diagnosed - She looked like a raccoon. She was drinking lots of water, using the bathroom constantly, and started wetting the bed - which was what really made my mom realize something wasn't right. (no fam history of diabetes, so it was all new) Once she started insulin, the circles disappeared.

Anyhow - hope I haven't worried you, and I hope it's nothing major!

Good to know! I've always had them (and I have bad allergies/sinuses but am NOT anemic). DD has them, too, and one of the teachers at her daycare tried to tell me DD was protein-deficient. I know she isn't, and 2 of the other teachers verified that it can be genetic.

Allergies, goes along with eczema. My DS woke up with them this morning!! And a yucky nose.

I have them BAD.. it's caused by my father. lol I hope miranda doesn't get them because of me.

yeppers i have them too....I got em' from my fathers side of teh fam. its genetic, but i can say that they get increasingly more noticable if i need more sleep.....I was always self conscience of them growing up cuz when they get real dark, they look like i have blck eyes as if someone punched me!! Yeha that was always a doozy trying to explain that I havent been punched!

I asked DD's pediatrician about this at her appointment this morning. He said undereye circles are caused by 2 different things: genetics and sinus issues/allergies. So there's the professional's view on the subject.
