Re: OB/GYN gender
I had a female maternal-fetal specialist (also called a perinatalogist in some practices). I liked her. If I ever conceive again (which unlikely) it will be midwife all the way, though! I started out with midwives but I changed b/c of the twins.
When I delivered, there were 10+ staffers in the room--my doctor, residents, nurses for me, nurses for the babies, etc. The only male other than my Dh in the room was the anethesiologist and that was only b/c there was a shift change right before I delivered.

Re: OB/GYN gender
Except for the female Gyn I first saw at Planned Parenthood, and the midwife I saw for the first half of my pregnancy with DS, every OB/Gyn I've had since has been male... that includes perinatologists. It doesn't bother me, honestly. It's not a sexual realtionship afterall, so for me, it's no stranger to be examined by a man than it is to be examined by a woman, KWIM? I've found my Dr's to be kind, gentle, and compassionate... and I really think that comes down to the indivual Dr, not necessary gender.
