Re: Holy good Hummus (semi-homemade... no tahini!)

Oooh that sounds yummy!

You can replace the tahini with adams peanut butter and it's almost as good!

Re: Holy good Hummus (semi-homemade... no tahini!)

ok, here's my hummus recipe that i got from a friend. it calls for tahini but i didn't have any so i made it anyway without and it was sooo good. i made it a week later with tahini and i didn't like it as much. so definitely give this a try if you don't like/don't want to use tahini. i'm going to try the hummus w/cream cheese recipe next...

Hummus
15 oz can chickpeas (drain, reserve liquid)
1/2 tahini (i don't use this, better without i think!)
1/4-1/2 cup water (i use the reserves chickpea liquid)
1 1/4 t kosher salt
2-3 cloves of garlic (to taste)
3 tbls EVOO
5 tbls lemon juice (I like more)
fresh ground black pepper

In food processor, obliterate garlic (or mince, this makes the taste stronger though so b aware of how much you use). Add chickpeas, lemon juice, salt, tahini. Blend. Add water/chickea juice a little at a time until desired consistancy. Drizzle in olive oil. Continue to mix in processor. Done. yummy

Re: Holy good Hummus (semi-homemade... no tahini!)

Can I hug you right now? Seriously, I'm allergic to sesame (epi pen carried at all times) and I love, love, love hummus. I developed this allergy six years ago and cannot eat hummus due to the tahini.

I can't wait to make this.

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can I just ask how long it takes for it to go bad? I am curious, because we buy large jars and it takes us several months to use them up and so far it's never gone bad.

Oh goodness! I tried it. I used more lemon, garlic and added a whole roated red pepper and YUMMMMMMMMMMBO!

Tubeater, I would try a little soft tofu in place of the sour cream. That might work well.

Re: Holy good Hummus (semi-homemade... no tahini!)

I just made this but didn't add any oil. It was already a tad thin so I skipped the oil. The only thing w/ skipping the oil is that it might not hold together, but I can handle that and have less fat.

This really tastes awesome, btw. If you like hummus you will like this.
