Stomach pain with eating

My 12yo has been complaining about a stomach ache after eating for a couple weeks now. He says it went away for a little bit but its back now.

He isn't vomiting or having diarrhea just general stomach discomfort.

He says he is just uncomfortable for a short time after eating.

Any ideas?

I thought maybe gluten but if it went away for a little while that doesnt make much sense.

I am going to keep a food log for him but any other thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks!

My first go to is dairy. Also is he stressed out? Is he taking a probiotic? My ds noticed a difference when he started taking his probiotic faithfully.

He's taking a basic one:

https://www.amazon.com/Natures-Bount.../dp/B001G7QRZS

His tummy was rumbling like crazy and making loud noises at his exam. Doctor suggested he give it a try and it's made enough of a difference that I don't have to hound him to take it.

Ok thanks! It probably doesn't help that he drinks little to no water.

Could it be constipation? Especially since he doesn't drink much water.

Oh man he is going to die when I ask him about his poop schedule But that could very well make sense. The probiotics should help that too right?

My DD started taking Zantac (prescription) after eating and it helped her tremendously. She doesn't have to take it every day now.

Re: Stomach pain with eating

My son used to get terrible stomachaches after eating, no matter what he ate. It turned out he was (majorly) constipated. Maybe just explain to him that in order to be healthy he needs to be pooping about every day, and if he doesn't he can get stomachaches...and have him pay attention to it for a few days. Water is essential too, and so is fiber--leafy greens and whole grains. (Not necessarily a 12-year-old's ideal diet, but if he's having frequent stomach pains it might be enough of a motivator to make a change.) Good luck!
