Anyone else with dog's having to bake towels at midwifes request? Also what kind of comfort (food drinks and whatnot) things are you planning to have on hand for your birth?

Re: homebirth moms

bake towels ?!?!?!? now that's a funny mental picture

I do get everything washed in hot nd bagged up ready to go but have never heard of baking items that are to be used! I don't have indoor dogs though so maybe that is why it has never come up?

As far as drinks/foods I really like Knudsen Recharge (like gatorade but good for you) I have several of those on hand.I like having Grapefruit, wasa crackers, cheeses, grapes etc on hand as well.It is odd though because never one while in labor have I ever had the desire to eat anything! I am freezing some recharge to mave an icee with just in case I feel like something really cold at some point.

Oh, I always like a good bread(like ezecial),PB and honey sandwich after L&D and I always hope my MIL brings me chicken and dumplings

I have read about that recharge. Where do you get it? Is it more expensive then Gatorade?

I couldn't stomach any type of food/drink during labor except water. But afterward I had peanut butter on toast and a bunch of sport drinks.

I just have clean towels. In regards to food, my labors are usually too fast to be hungry, but one I ate a sandwhich, another ice cream. Just whatever.

If you have a health food store near you they should stock it or be able to order it. It probably is higher than gatorade. It runs about $3.75 for a quart but it is yummy and doesn't have all the added sugars and icky stuff that other electrolyte drinks do

Bake towels??? Why is that specific to having dogs? Germs or something? And we have a dog, but my mw has not asked me to bake any towels? She did ask for me to put the clean washclothes and baby blankets in ziplocs, though.

Something about dogs carry in stuff from outside that gets onto clothes/towels and washing them isn't enough. I really didn't think to much about it at the time.

I didn't have to do that.

Just kept recieving blankets warm w/ a heating pad.

And I drank passion tea lemonade and watered down Vitamin Water.

Re: homebirth moms

The instructions my last midwife gave me had to bake the towels in paper bags on low heat for so long to sterile them but she said I didn't need to do that.

My current midwife hasn't said anything about it. I just have some old clean towels under the cabinet with my other birth supplies.
