Lifting after c/s

How long after your cs did you feel comfortable lifting your other children, or what was your dr's recommendation?

How big ate your kids? I think I didn't really life anything over 10 pounds for about 6 weeks, but I have heard of others who healed faster than I did.

I have a 28 lb 2 year old and a 5 year old (I wouldn't try to lift him yet). I'm almost 4 weeks post cs and haven't had pain for at least 2 weeks.

Re: Lifting after c/s

I had no choice but to lift my first child when #2 was born. DH had to go back to work 10 days post-op so I was home alone almost all the time. He was in the field a lot preparing for deployment. She was 22 pounds and 16 months old. I had to lift her in and out of her crib, high chair and car seat.
Do what ya gotta do.
Now DH works from home so I'll have help if I need it.

Re: Lifting after c/s

They also told me not to vacuum, do laundry or load the dishwasher because it uses abdominal muscles. DH doesn't do housework period. So I was doing that at one week post-op.

Re: Lifting after c/s

My other children were to big to be picking up ( 8,7,6). But my baby was 10lbs even at birth and he was hard to pick up at first. But I didn't stop moving. I feel I healed fast. Other people I knew that had csections couldn't believe the things I was able to do once I got home!!!

Re: Lifting after c/s

They tell you not to pick up anything over 10 lbs for a reason, so you don't open your cut,or start bleeding and after any birth, so your uterus doesn't "fall out". My c/s I didn't listen too well. But my v-back with #5, I would know when to slow down, I could feel my uterus dropping. I'd say, listen and pay attention to your body.

Re: Lifting after c/s

After about 2 weeks after my CS I felt pretty normal and was doing just about everything as if if never happened however I did wait till about 5weeks before I started to drive again just to be safe. And I mostly stayed home with baby ☺️

But I do know that it's different for everyone
