Nutritious food for postpartum mamas
Hi!
I like beef but beef broth turns me off. if you are like me, you will enjoy this simple broth that doesn't have much " meaty" taste. I wish I had discovered this earlier but here goes a very simple recipe for a nutritious food for winter mamas. Here is my simple recipe that you can freeze for quick postpartum nutrition. 1. Make a broth from soup bones a day before and refridgerate 3. Sautee onions in a large pot with a little olive oil or skim the fat from over the cold broth. 4. Add sliced mushrooms (mushrooms are the secret ingredient here) 5. Add sliced carrots or other veggies if you like. 6. Add 2 cups broth 1 cup water 7. Let it simmer 8. Add pepper and lots of ginger powder to garnish. 9. Add thinli sliced leeks or onions after you turn off the heat. You can freeze it in zip loc bags for later use. Enjoy! |

Re: Nutritious food for postpartum mamas
I am going to make pate for after birth when I am in the hospital. The hospital I deliver in doesn't believe in giving anyone fat or salt so any help I can have with this would be helpful!
Pate I think will help me with my iron counts that tend to be low right after delivery. I also plan on having my DH bring me Pho. It is a Vietnamese dish that uses just hot broth to cook it. I can have cold veggies and meat standing by and just heat the broth in a microwave. I have to have a c-section so I will be on clear fluids at first, so I am hoping to learn a bit more about what teas I should have on hand. I also plan on making my own fruit sweetened jello (which is somehow considered a clear liquid as I have got it twice before!). I haven't figured out beyond that but I imagine it will involve fruit and veggies of some point. Probably fresh salads. I got approval from my OB to bring my own food in so that is a good first step! Can't wait to read what other people are doing!

Re: Nutritious food for postpartum mamas
I made and froze a Sicilian Meatloaf for a good postpartum meal. It is also tradition amongst my friends to bring nutritious meals to new mama the weeks following (many are Midwvies and Doulas so they know what a mama needs) as well as my MIL makes a nice Italian meal, hearty, with lots of veggies.
