Anyone have high HCG levels and end up with a singleton?

I'm about 9 weeks pregnant now, around 6 weeks my test were 92,000 for hcg and my progesterone was 9.5. My midwife suspected multiples and a few days later a transvaginal ultrasound revealed only one baby measuring 7 weeks 2 days (consistent with my dates) and one heartbeat.

The morning sickness came not that long after conception because I was extremely sick and nauseous almost two weeks before my missed period. My lmp was May 1. I'm still nauseous with morning sickness all day every day for 2 months now.

Anyone experience something similar?

I feel terrible.

EDIT: UPDATE 8/7/2012 Definitely only one in there.

hmmm, i don't know...not to freak you out bc hcg varies sooooo much from woman to woman and doesn't seem to mean a ton. The only time i had hcg close to that high (60,000 at 6w) it was a partial molar and twins. I suspect you are just on the high end of normal. Twins usually result in higher progesterone too so i doubt a second one is hiding. Are they watching for signs of molar tissue on the placenta?

no, once the ultrasound was done they chucked the hcg levels as an anomaly. My progesterone at 8 weeks had gone up to 12.5 and the hcg at 112,000-114,000.

Re: Anyone have high HCG levels and end up with a singleton?

I am not in your group, but with my son, I had high levels (not sure what they were at at that point as I do IVF) and they thought that I had twins based on the HCG numbers. I just had a very healthy little boy. My first beta was 14 days past my 5 day transfer and was 1000+ My son was measuring at a conception day of his transfer day. So he was really 14 days past ovulation at that point.

I think since you see only one baby at this point you probably only have one. My triplet pregnancy was where I only showed one sack on my first ultrasound, but had 3 babies at the second ultrasound (with heartbeats). I personally consider the heart rate scan the final verdict in how many children I have.

Good luck with your pregnancy!

Re: Anyone have high HCG levels and end up with a singleton?

I had very high (299,999 at 9 weeks) hcg's with my second, and she was only a singleton...the only reason I know is because I had a sch and at the ER they did a level check along with ultrasound to see what was going on. My midwife didn't say that she found it abnormal, just that super high hcg could possibly be the reason I get so sick when I am preggo

Re: Anyone have high HCG levels and end up with a singleton?

I'm voting for the high side of the normal range; it's a very large range and varies between sources. Mine was 176,107 at 7 weeks exactly. I've also had horrible MS resulting in weight loss, but I'm not guessing it's multiples, as these factors are consistent with my last singleton pregnancy. High hormone levels are potentially a cause of MS, so those aren't really independent factors, ya know? Sorry if you're disappointed, Mama!

yeah, my progesterone went up to 125,000 which technically can still be normal...but my prog. was 36+. I really think yours is just an anomoly of normal. Mine has always been the higher end of normal but i have never (until this one when i haven't had hcg tested at all) been sick. Are they going to do any more u/s or bw?

Re: Anyone have high HCG levels and end up with a singleton?

Oh, I forgot to add that we heard back when we were in fertility treatment that it's not the one-time measurement on the high-end of normal which can indicate multiples, but rather the rate at which your levels rise. So if you're doubling in the early weeks like every 24 hours rather than every 72 hours (<VERY approximate example), then maybe that could mean something. A single measurement in isolation isn't evidence.

Maybe I misinterpreted your situation. Are you feeling bad because you wanted multiples, or because of this terrible thing called MS?
