Would you EVER let your child have a FB or Twitter?

Would you EVER let your child have a FB or Twitter?
Why or why not?
At what age?

[Started from thoughts arising from another thread about FB, rather than piggybacking.]

I'm hoping that trend dies by the time my 5 yr old is a preteen. I would let them have an account when they're legally old enough(13 I think) and mature enough.

That would be nice, to just not have to deal with it But I voted yes, my kids will be able to have one when they are old and mature enough for it. Their access would be conditional on mature behavior

I'm a yes.

I'd always monitor their content. For us, I see it as an opportunity to connect with family that lives far away.

The teeny-bopper phase might drive me nuts!! I don't want to read a thousand updates a day about anyone... "I just ate a sandwich." "I'm going to do X." "I'm doing X." etc. I can't stand the play-by-play statutes updates of someone's day, Grrr! (Dislike button, lol!)

Age - when the expressed desire meets maturity, and always with parental support and education.

Yes, to FB & twitter. I see no point in refusing either at whatever age my kids have gotten or will get cell phones, iPads, laptops, or access to friends with technology. My older daughters were monitored when they were younger & my 3 yr olds are monitored with their iPads & our cells (they are allowed to open my FB & scroll through my albums of pics there).

If my children act immaturely, irresponsibly, or in poor taste it will come back to bite them regardless of if they do it online or at the playground and be an opportunity for personal reflection & growth. Our family fully embraces technology & openly chats about safety concerns with all of our daughters.

Yep, when they are old enough. Although I'd imagine that by the time my kids are old enough social media will have marched on to something else, seeing as my oldest is not yet 5.

Yea I feel the same my hubby spends lots of time on it & lots not really know or just met & consider friend after girls seem to burn him. My daughter likes irl people so hope no big want 4 her but who knows. I have friends on fb or twitter & 20 others & I don't have time for all of that..... I think kids need to be outside & active not waste time on all that plus them meeting old creepy guys looking 4 young girls...... I would highly monitor my kids & limit to stuff on it.... in upper almost legal age (I say now but who knows 4 real). I hope no interest.......

yep, this. Oldest is 4.5, so I have a long time before it's an issue, and by then it will be something else I'm sure
