Early Contractions

Hi Mamas! I have a pretty scary experience that I wanted to tell you about.

While out Christmas shopping with my fiancee on Tuesday I kept experiencing some pain in my lower stomach. Which is usually common because of the growing, but if I sit down & relax, it tends to go away. This pain wasn't subsiding. I decided to head to the ER, just to be on the safe side. The nurse brought me right up to Maternity, and it turns out that I was having contractions! They were monitoring the baby, who was doing wonderfully. He kept kicking so hard that the nurse had to keep tightening the monitor around my belly. Haha! After being monitored for about an hour, the contractions didn't seem to be going away on their own, so the midwife that was seeing me gave me a shot to stop them. I was just told to take it easy, and make sure that I don't have more than 6 contractions within an hour.

Have any of you Mamas started to have contractions this early? I'm 23 weeks right now.

No I haven't had ctx that early - my earliest was around 38 weeks, LOL, w/ my 2nd. W/ my first I didn't have any until I went into labor. However, I have been having BH ctx already (much earlier than w/ my other 2) - I was told that they come earlier with each pg... GL mama!

Re: Early Contractions

I've noticed if I walk long distances I get some. Last Friday we went to Bellingrath Gardens to walk and look at the Christmas lights and I had some....also while at the mall Christmas shopping. I think that's my body's way of telling me to slow it down.

Re: Early Contractions

Thanks, Mamas. I was walking around a lot that day, so that could have trigged it. Th e midwife checked, and I wasn't dialating. I've had a few over the last few days, but I'm feeling a lot better.

Re: Early Contractions

With my middle I started having ctx at 24 weeks. I had them every 5 mintues or so for the next 13 weeks. With my youngest I started with what I thought was BH at 18 weeks but my cervix was shortening then. So they lasted until I delivered at 34 weeks.
