Guardianship Records and legal junk

I know this section is pretty dead but hoping someone can help me.

Are guardianship records public? I would think so, but how would I go about finding them? In what circumstances can a guardianship be contested? From what I have read close family members are supposed to be notified before a guardianship takes place....does that include minor children? Siblings? Anything else you can tell me in relation to guardianship? I have tried looking into this stuff on my own but feel like I am spinning my wheels.

For the record, this particular circumstance is in Missouri, as I know the laws vary some.

In WI, guardianship is different than kinship. Are you talking specifically about guardianship? Here, Parents can give guardianship to another person but guardian can take parent to court if guardian does not think the parent should have custody back. If a person thinks a child shouldn't be with their parent they can petition the court for guardianship, but this is very hard to do. any records with minors are protected. Only contested is if child is in danger. In WI, if children go into protective services (fostercare) the social worker has an obligation to find relatives. But they may only look as far as the parents give information for. you can contact county dcf and ask to be considered if you are a close relative and the child is alreading in fostercare. Siblings are suppose to be place together when it is safe for the children and if a home can be found (ie if their are 6 siblings they may be put into 2-3 homes)

also, going across state lines is complicated and time consuming.

Yes I am talking specifically about guardianship.

There is no crossing of state lines involved.

DH and I are not relatives to the child I am asking about--but our foster sons are.
