back wearing

When are you able to wear your baby on your back in a woven wrap? I have a baby who always wants to be held and I can't get anything done around the house. She is 13 weeks and has ok head control.

Re: back wearing

For an experienced wearer, it's possible to wear a newborn in a back carry with a woven. For a novice, my group normally recommends waiting until your little one can sit up (5 months or so) because it's usually easier to get them on and off your back safely. If you have a local group, I'd recommend going to a meeting to see if they can help you. If not, there are youtube videos, and you should DEFINITELY have another adult present to help as a "spotter".

Re: back wearing

I think I tried back carries for the first time when DD was about 4 months. She had pretty good head control and I had leaders at my babywearing group to help me out. I didn't really wear her on my back for any prolonged period until a few weeks later though. Hip carries can be helpful if you are trying to get things done and aren't quite ready for back carries.

Re: back wearing

Hmm, I didn't know. I wore mine on my back at 2.5 months, but I watched lots of youtube videos and wrapped on the bed. I did it out of desperation. I was tired of the dishes not being done, lol. It did get easier once she had better head control though. You can still get stuff done with her wrapped in front though, like folding laundry and picking up around the house.

There is a mom on YouTube who does great newborn woven back carries. "Wrap your baby" or something like that is her user name. I tried with DD2 at about 2 months and it worked great! Just make sure you get your top pass right at babies neck and get it very snug.

Re: back wearing

i started wearing me little one on my back when he was 2 weeks. i wouldnt suggest a new to wrapping mama to try it without help, but when u get the hang of it its the best way to get things done around the house, shopping or chasing after other kids. 13weeks is not an issue im sure she would love it, just remember to have someone there to help u while your learning
