Devastating Diagnosis

So DH and I have been trying for 8 months for our 3rd. The first two happend so easily. This time we are really struggling and we didn't understand why. I felt like something was wrong but DH kept brushing it off, so finally I made an appt to see my doctor back in Oct and we got an appt at a fertility clinic last month. Both DH and I have been worked up and everything is normal on my part. I really thought it was me and my progesterone but it looks like that is all normal. DH's sperm analysis came back with 0 sperm. Azoospermia it appears. The Dr was unable to tell us much b/c the scrotal ultrasound didn't really give an explaination. It looks like he might have a varicocele but he said that wouldn't be a reason for no sperm at all, more like reduced count or motility. This obviously is a new thing since we had no trouble concieving the last 2. We are shocked. DH is taking it pretty hard. I'm trying to stay strong for him, but I'm crushed. This is not a good diagnosis. The only thing we can think of is DH had a second hydrocele sx Feb 2012 and we wonder if they nicked something or scar tissue has built up and caused an obstruction. He gave another sample today but I'm not holding out hope that one will come back normal. Totally crushed after today. So now we are doing genetic testing and hormone testing to see if it's a hormonal thing or a structural thing. Anyone else been through this and gone on to have a healthy pregancy? I'm afraid this is going to take a long time to solve.

Re: Devastating Diagnosis

My eggs are useless & we use donors/IVF. It was a big blow. Choosing donors (we're currently choosing our 3rd) is so difficult. My fertility can never be restored - it likely never existed.

I have no medical knowledge of your husbands circumstances. But, you are lucky that it was him & not you. There are tens of thousands more sperm donors than egg donors, the cost is dramatically less, you should be able to easily use one sperm donor for all future children instead of having to choose new ones with each try, and you guys will require much less medical intervention with each TTC cycle

I'm sorry this happened to you.

Re: Devastating Diagnosis

Thanks for all your kind words. We find out more tomorrow at our appt. DH has to work so I'm going by myself to get the info as we don't want to wait another week. Rather hear it now and digest some of it before Christmas.
