I'm so glad I went with my gut instinct and went with a home birth this time, something I NEVER had the desire to do, probably because I didn't think myself capable.

Congratulations on having such a wonderful home & water birth!
Crazy that your original midwife was so unorganized/dismissive! I understand that emergencies might come up, but that is crazy disrespectful & unprofessional. The midwifery groups I know all have set months of vacation planned well in advance, and you get to meet the pairs of midwives througout your pregnancy to avoid those surprises. Sorry that didn't happen for you.

I know, right?! We never heard from her again, either. I hate to say it but the backup midwife didn't leave a pleasant taste in our mouths either, after the birth and seeing her during subsequent visits. I'm glad this baby is my last. We must have some crazy bad luck when it comes to midwives

I am in love with the name Oliver Everett! Such an awesome story! Our babies will be born at the hospital (twins) but my doc agrees to let me try natural as long as everything is going well! Oliver is beautiful! Good work Momma!

Awesome story!! I've had two hospital and two home births and if we ever decide to have a 5th, he/she would be born at home as well! My home births were, by far, WAY better experiences than my two hospital births (even though my midwife didn't make it to my first home birth and my mom had to catch him! Needless to say I switched midwives!) Congrats!!
