Re: Ear tubes?

Re: Ear tubes?

My oldest had them put in on his first birthday . It seemed like we were always in th drs. office. He had atleast 6 if not more in a year. WOW.

I can't say he never got another ear infection once they were in. He did. One that was so bad it drained, like a runny nose!!!

My LO has had only one, and that was the week he turned 2.

Re: Ear tubes?

We are scheduled to have tubes put in on the 4th and also his adenoids out. He has had an infection/fluid in his ears since at least October and has been on several rounds of antibiotics. His doesn't talk much due to not hearing for who knows how long...(I think it must have been awhile to completely affect his speech). He also has sleeping issues, alergy issues, and behavioral issues so it didn't take much thought to choose to have it all done.

We are very hopeful that this will make him a complete different child! BTW, he is 4.

ETA: he had never been diagnosed with fluid or any ear infections but I suspect they were both there. This was discovered in Oct when we switched drs.

Re: Ear tubes?

Connor began getting double ear infections at about 9 months and kept getting them very frequently until age 2. It was almost like they never really went away. He even ruptured an eardrum. He finally got tubes at 2 years old and has only had 1 ear infection in the year and half since then! I am so glad he got the tubes bc he was to the point that he had to go in for Rocephin shots(which are very painful) bc no antibiotics would help his ears anymore.
ETA: They also took his adenoids out bc they were large.

Re: Ear tubes?

Our DD got them last March and it's been the best decision. She would get a ear infection every 2 or 3 months sometimes lasting over two weeks. We had tried so many different antibotics and I was starting to give up.

Since March, we have not had ONE ear infection or even one really bad cold, which probably has nothing to do with the tubes but still. My dr was heistant to send us to a ENT but I pushed the issue and now even my Dr says he is glad I did because her health has improved.

She was three when she had them put in...

Re: Ear tubes?

We wouldn't hesitate. Hubby has lasting hearing damage from having tubes put in too late because his doctors brushed off his infections.

Re: Ear tubes?

Thanks for all the advice and stories. I was visiting a friend today and she mentioned that DS' ear problems may be the reason he isn't speaking clearly yet. He says a bunch of words but none are very clear. If tubes will help his speech that would be great. We go back to the DR in 2 weeks to discuss the tubes/adenoids

absolutely! My son has a pretty significant speech delay from ear infections. He's had at least 30. He got tubes and tonsils/adenoids out last year and he's only had 1 infection since. His speech is also up by about 200 words. It's been worth it for sure!!
