Teething & ear infection, loss of appetite and weight loss..

Just wanted to see if any of you mamas have experienced this.

I had to take my son to the doctor because he had an ear ache that was not going away after 2 weeks [I try the homeopathy first].

Anyway, when they weighed him he had lost almost 5 lbs. From 34 lbs to 29.

Now he is going through an eating phase. Some days he will eat me out of house and home and other days he barely eats anything.
Lately with being sick, ear ache and his two year molars he may eat 1 fairly good meal a day and literally one or two bites at other meals.

So I know what is causing the weight loss. But have any of you had this with your little ones?
He is also VERY active..on the go all.the.time unless he is sleeping, so I think the lack of eating and high activity is causing him to lose weight.

I asked if it was normal with the doctor and she said that typically kids at this age do go through a picky phase and she wouldn't worry now.

I've just trying to feed him better "fattening" foods right now like whole milk organic yogurt and such when he is hungry. Now yesterday he ate pretty darn good. Lots of watermelon, 2 slices of pizza that made, chicken nuggets...

Anyway, I'm rambling...I was just a bit worried still and wanted to get input. [oh it was a different scale too...but I don't know that 2 scales would have a 5 lb difference.]

Thanks in advance!

I would try to keep him on the same scale if you can, and without his sneakers/shoes, ect.

Whenever I complained to my oldest developmental pediatrician about him not eating a lot, she said a serving size for a toddler is 1/4 of a adult serving size, and an adult serving size, which isn't a lot for us, but for them it is.

As long as he is staying hydrated, and at least munching on something during the day, and hasn't completely stopped eating, I would give him some time. After being sick and/or having a earache it will take some time for him to bounce back, and sometimes they won't, and they have a new diet.

Thanks mama! I go back with the baby in a couple of weeks so I'll have them weigh him on the original scale.

Oh yeah, he has started eating again!! Today has been another eating me out of house and home day, so the appetite is returning! Yay!
