Say an extra prayer for us tomorrow.

We go in for a second opinion ultrasound. We had one and they thought she might have clubfeet. We had a bad experience with the doctor (specialist), so switching to a new one and will get another ultrasound tomorrow. I know if it is clubfoot we can handle it and there are many worse things that could go wrong. It's all just a little overwhelming thinking of my newborn in whole leg casts right away . It can be associated with other neurological problems defects, though 1st doctor thought everything else looked good. That's most important to me!

Thanks and I'll update tomorrow.

Re: Say an extra prayer for us tomorrow.

I hope all goes well. My 4th son was born with a clubfoot, first seen on ultrasound at about 20 weeks (we opted to do an amnio to rule out chromosonal abnormalities). We were able to do lots of research on various treatment methods for clubfoot and found a great doctor to treat him. He's now 10, and other than one foot being a little smaller than the other and the leg muscles in that leg slightly underdeveloped, he has no pain and no limitations of movement. He was treated using the Ponsetti method which involved serial casting for 8 weeks (we then did an achilles tendon release for better range of movement) and then he wore a brace for 23 hours a day for about a year.

It is difficult to get a diagnosis of any abnormality for your child, but as far as they go,, this is an easy one to treat. Use this time to get information about area doctors that specialize in treatment- make sure the delivering doctor/hospital knows to prevent them from casting right away (my son's ortho. was in a big city children's hospital and said to bring him in for first casting a week after birth; hospital where I delivered put plaster cast on him immediately after birth- not even bothering to inform me- which was beyond bothersome as I wasn't even in the room to comfort my son).

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Wishing the best of luck to you and your little one!

Re: Say an extra prayer for us tomorrow.

Ima_to_6 thank you for that info. I will pm you if I come up with questions, thanks for the information. The Ponseti method of treatment is what I am reading such great things on. The doctor today talked about surgery, but I was told by someone to NOT go that route, at least not first. I am afraid the closes Ponseti doctor might be 4 1/2 hours away.

Had the appointment got to see her again on ultrasound. She was diagnosed with clubfoot with both feet. The good news is that otherwise she looks to be developing very well. It seems so far to be the only issue. I am thankful for that! She was on the small side, but still normal, 15%tile so they are going to have me come back in a month just to check growth. I know it all won't be easy, but it will all be worth it in the end. This doctor was amazing too, she came and looked after reading the results, double checked things herself on ultrasound. I had a stroke in 07 and she was going to go back and find my records to make sure I was checked for something long name can't remember. Something she said should be checked when young healthy people have a stroke. She really went above and beyond. She is sadly commuting just until July and then a new doctor will take over for good. Anyone has to be better then the other specialist I saw.

Thanks for the prayers and keep them coming .

Re: Say an extra prayer for us tomorrow.

I am so glad I came across this post. I had an ultra sound an anatomy scan last week where it was discovered our baby boy had some issues with his left foot. It does appear to be a club foot, but also the bone in his leg right above that was shorter and slightly curved compared to the other leg. I am only 24 years old and perfectly healthy. This is my first baby so I was completely shocked to hear of any complications at all. It's good to know others out there were able to come through the process so well.

Good luck with everything for your little girl! Did they tell you that the rest of your pregnancy and delivery will be normal? I was told I shouldn't expect any further complications, like an early delivery or c-section, but I'm wondering what the chances really are of having zero other problems when something like this comes up. I was really hoping to do a natural birth with my wonderful nurse-midwife.

One other question, how often do they want you to see the specialist? Is that a Maternal-Fetal Medicine doctor or Perinatologist (same thing I think)? I saw your post said at least one more time to check weight.
