Re: 103 Degrees. Would you take him in?

I took DS in a week ago because he had a fever of 103 for three days and cold symptoms. Sure enough, just a cold. I wanted to be sure before we left for camping though.

Fevers do serve a purpose and a lower fever can mean a more serious illness than a higher fever. The actual temp doesn't mean much.

Good luck though, having a sick LO is not fun!
This is what we did Friday night-Monday morning.

No lethargy (he was active), No regression (talking more than usual actually ), no vomiting, no diarrhea, no issues breathing. Slight cough once in a blue moon the entire time.

He went in Monday when the Pedi was open and checked out fine, and quit having fever sometime in the middle of Monday night, without any medicinal interventions.

Re: 103 Degrees. Would you take him in?

Thanks mamas. It spiked again in the night and we gave him another dose of Tylenol and another bath. He is doing much better this morning. I did not want to take him in last night but I needed reassurance that I wasn't crazy for not rushing right in.

Thanks again.

A high temperature itself doesn't cause seizures. It is the rapid increase/change of temperature.

If I were medicating a fever, I would mediate in such a way the fever didn't have an opporunity to re-rise rapidly. Maybe by alternating between Tylenol and Advil and slightly overlapping so there is no non-medicated time. I generally don't medicate for fevers alone, but it is what I would do if I did.

OP, I am glad that your little guy is feeling better this morning.

Re: 103 Degrees. Would you take him in? **UPDATED**

We are mostly a non-medicating family and even at 102 I would not medicate. I got concerned when he was 104. Good to know about the rapid rise. Thank you.
