10 months old ... Is it possible?

So my son is 10 months old now. Every morning while I shower, I let him roam the bathroom diaper-free. For the past week or so, he has been going to the toilet (which is latched shut) and pulling at it. When he can't open it, he whines, then proceeds to pee and poop all over the floor. I'm wondering if I should be getting a potty and starting some preliminary training? Getting him to sit on it and try, etc. since he seems to want to go. Just looking for some advice / hints, etc. from those who have been there before thanks!

If he seems interested I would try it. It's not going to hurt, and every 'catch' is one less diaper and a good association that the potty is for peeing/pooping. I wouldn't really push it, and I would guess you will see some success and then he will lose interest, but you will still be ahead of the game if he has already made those preliminary connections. There is also the chance that he may just train that early, though it's rare (in America, anyway). Good luck.

It is possible. Dhs aunt apparently trained at 9mo.

I wouldn't push it tho.

My first showed interest around that age. We caught a few in the potty. But then he didn't want to anymore. So we didn't push it

Certainly worth a try. If he wants to use the potty I would not discourage him in any way. Maybe time to get him his own potty and see what he does.

Re: 10 months old ... Is it possible?

DS (13mo) has been using the big potty first thing every morning since he was 6 months old. He only does it once a day, but I figure that's better than nothing. Some nights he wakes up completely dry too, so he definitely has an idea of what's going on. We got him an Ikea potty chair to keep around the house to see if it sparked interest at other times of the day, and he'll sit on it from time to time but it's rare that he will go on it.

I would say it won't hurt to see if your son is interested, as long as you don't push it. Good luck!

Re: 10 months old ... Is it possible?

Thanks everyone! We're getting a potty this weekend and we'll try morning sits and see how it goes... At the very least hopefully I won't have to keep cleaning up poop all over the bathroom while trying to get ready for work!! :P

Re: 10 months old ... Is it possible?

I start partial EC from birth. We diaper full-time, but I make the cue sounds whenever I notice them eliminating, and if a diaper is drier than I expect, I'll take them to the sink to see if they have any "bonus pees".

Maybe it's just luck, but my first was in training underwear at 14 months, and my second was fully day trained at 22 months and night trained a few months after that.

Re: 10 months old ... Is it possible?

We were potty training since 7 months, and in 10 month DD pooped only on a potty but never asked me to put her there I just saw it's the time. But then she decided it's more pleasant to make it on the floor and for already 6 month I can do nothing with it...

Of course it's possible. You should give it a try.

I think you can try, why not... All children are different.
