help a first time moma: fever

david has now a high fever (103)
but the wierd thing is that although he is sluggish he has no other symptoms
i dunno why he sick . when only fever is present, what doest hat mean??
no cough , nothing, im stumped. last night he had a rough night but then seems he was ok til now. i cheked and its 103. i gave him tylenol

Personally, I try to avoid drs unless they're necessary. When my dc get fevers, this is what I do:
Put him in a lukewarm bath and have him sit in it for at least 10-15 minutes. It will feel a little cold to him, but it works great to bring down fever. Then use a cool washcloth on his forehead, and give him lots of water or a little clear soda if he doesn't like water.

This works well for us, but remember that fever is the body's way of getting rid of bad germs, so it's not necessarily a bad thing.

How old is David now? If he is still pretty young, I would give him Motrin and see if it brings it down. If he is a bit older, just keep him comfortable, unless you don't mind giving medicine.

Ok, 3 I wouldn't worry about it. Madison just had one a few weeks ago about the same. Also, try some wet rags under his armpits, not cold, just cool.

Does the fever come down when you give him meds? If it does, then I'd keep track of it (write down time of meds and temps) and wait a while and see.

If it doesn't respond to meds, I personally would have him looked at, but that's just me, I'm a bit of a worrier.

ETA: keep giving him as much fluid as possible, it's really important to keep them hydrated when they have a fever.

wierd thing is that when he woke up at 9am he had no fever. i gave him at 10am tyulenol just in case (at 6am was his last does)
he was fine and dandy til 3pm when i got home from the store
he laying down now, i did give him the bath and some more tylenol and that helped. he took some water but he dont want anymore, ill keep pushing.

My ds has a history of febrile seizures. Pretty much anything over 103.5 and he starts going into seizures, so I'm REALLY paranoid about fevers.

When i notice a fever that high I put him in a lukewarm bath, give him some motrin (that seems to work better than tylenol) and monitor him closely. I'll also put cool rags under his arms once he is out of the tub and in his groin area. These help to keep the fever down until the meds kick in. I then alternate tylenol & motrin every 3 hrs. My doc says this is the best way to keep a fever down in a child .. especially when they are that high. So at 6pm I'd give motrin, 9pm tyleonl, 12am motrin, etc.

In my ds a high fever like that is always an indication of an ear infection. He never acts like his ears are hurting him, but the fever is our first sign. If we don't get into the doc pretty quick they burst.

Fevers are you friend!
Generally high fevers in children are fine. Chldren tend to run high fevers easily compared to adults.
At 103 i would give tylenol or advil to get the fever down a bit as he likely will be less sluggish once it is down.
His body will be burning through fluid quickly so make sure to keep him hydrated!
