Re: stinky FB help!
Did you try tea tree oil? I use some in my last rinse cycle only a few drops and it leaves everything smelling really fresh and clean. Good Luck

Re: stinky FB help!
Have you tried using a downy ball of vinegar in your wash? That helps with build up and stink too, works wonders. Good luck

Re: stinky FB help!
Yes! The vinegar can really help, even when stripping doesn't seem to be doing the trick.

Re: stinky FB help!
Too much detergent is probably causing build-up. Don't add more. Try adding a squirt of degreasing dish liquid like Dawn in the load. Or maybe switch to a residue free detergent. We use Sport-wash. SW actually removes old build-up as well. Love the stuff!!

Re: stinky FB help!
Is it the dipe or the insert?
Stripping is when you squirt a tiny amount of dawn into your wash load. Wash on hot and rinse on cold. You may need to rinse several times until the bubbles are out of the rinse water. I had stinky dipes and it ended up being the microfiber inserts. And, my ds got a sore on his little wee wee after wearing a fb w/ one of those tainted inserts overnight or for a long time. I was new to cd'ing and used Era and way too much in my opinion. After 2 weeks of that routine they would stink as soon as ds peed 1x in the dipe. I tried stripping the inserts like dipes but it didn't help enough. I ended up boiling them. I got two pots full of water and brought them to a boil. I put no more than 3 large mf inserts in one pan at a time. I boiled them for 5 minutes and stirred all the while. I then removed them and put them in a bowl in the sink with cold water in it. After letting it cool off in that water I dumped it out and ran cold water over the insert and squeezed it, ran more water over it, squeezed it, ran cold water etc. I then did a smell test. If the mf insert still stunk (when boiling them the whole house stunk) I got a clean pot of water brought it to a boil and repeated the entire process. You HAVE to get new water every time you are done with boiling previous ones. Something about that stinky water and the heat would allow the next set of inserts to not get clean enough. After boiling each insert 4 times+ in a row there was a faint smell but it reminded me of a mechanic shop but it wasn't bad like before. I put my white ones (like MOE) in the washer with a very TINY amount of bleach and let them soak. I have blue mf towels from Sam's but only boiled them, I didn't want to spot them with bleach! After soaking I drained the washer and ran a normal hot/cold wash cycle WITH NO SOAP (just the white ones by themselves as I didn't want to throw the blue ones in and get bleach transfer). I rinsed 2x in cold and then added the blue mf towels in with the white ones and ran a normal wash cycle (hot/cold with 2 rinses). I took them out afterwards and they were totally smell free. I now use sportwash (in the hunting section at your local Wal-Mart). For sunning I lay the dipes down flat on the ground (not hanging on anything) and spray them with a water bottle. I then cut a fresh lemon and squeeze the lemon over the stain to soak it. I do this over an over throughout a day (maybe 3 times) and then wash but DON'T DRY as that will set the stain in. If after washing the stain is still there I do it again the next day.
