Re: PSA: Fishponds WARNING: near drowning mentioned
This is one of the BIG reasons we removed the fountain in our backyard. It just wasn't worth the risk (or the time to clean all the pine needles out of
). I'm so glad you got to her in time and that she's ok!

Re: PSA: Fishponds WARNING: near drowning mentioned
MIL's place has a big fishpond in it, not one of those little ones with goldfish. They are ultra careful with kids around it, even older ones who can swim because a child did drown once when MIL was a baby.
And this is also why every one of my children will take swimming lessons, and I will find a way to afford it. They don't drown proof your child, but they certainly help!

Re: PSA: Fishponds WARNING: near drowning mentioned
Oh, so glad she is okay. This is my #1 biggest mommy fear. Not necessarily fish ponds, but drowning in general. It can happen SO fast, and I have always heard/read that, as you said, little kids don't splash around/make lots of noise if they fall in the water.
I think it was last summer, near my hometown, a 1-year-old did drown in a shallow fish pond in someone's yard during a party. No one heard or saw him go in. That, and the fact that my daughter did fall in ours (I watched her fall in and scooped her right back out, but still), is what finally prompted my DH to get rid of our fish pond. You really just cannot be too careful around water. Again, so glad you saw what happened so quickly and that your LO was just fine.

Re: PSA: Fishponds WARNING: near drowning mentioned
![]() Oh my that must have been terrifying. When we bought our house there was a fish pond next to our screened in porch. We didn't even have children and I wanted it gone. Children can drown in a small amount of water. The water in the pond is not clean so def. a good idea to take her to the ped. to check that out. Take care.

Re: PSA: Fishponds WARNING: near drowning mentioned
Oh, I can't even imagine what it would have been like to actually watch it happen. My son fell in my parents fish pond last summer, but it is like 3 feet deep. He was trying to "hug" the turtle
Darn kid always hugging things. My dad and brother were out there with him and got him right out, but I can't imagine how I would have felt if I were out there too.

Re: PSA: Fishponds WARNING: near drowning mentioned
Oh scary!!!!!!! Someone posted a drowning-doesn't-look-like-drowning thread a bit ago and apparently people can't actually thrash at all when they are drowning. It's silent, just like happened with your dd. SO scary!!!!!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm so glad she's okay and you were right there and saw her!!

Re: PSA: Fishponds WARNING: near drowning mentioned
I'm so sorry this happened, how terrifying! Praise God all is well with your little one. It's a very good reminder. I was just reading this & thinking about our baby pool in our back yard that DH & I sit RIGHT next to when our little one is out there playing in it. She climbs in & out over & over again, but it only takes once of her losing footing to go in head first. I'm so glad your sweet blessing is okay.
I agree with taking her to the doc tomorrow. Prayers!
