Studies have shown that breastfeeding offers protection against respiratory infections to babies in smoking households. Respiratory infections are much more common in babies exposed to environmental tobacco smoke, or second-hand smoke. Mothers who smoke cigarettes should be encouraged to breastfeed their babies and to try to smoke as little as possible. Many factors work against a mother who smokes and wants to breastfeed. As always, La Leche League Leaders are there to offer information and support to breastfeeding mothers who smoke.

So it's not ridiculous to think that.

talk about open mouth insert foot!! you need to research before posting! why would you think its rediculous?? it is perfectly fine to BF and have a drink and while its not ideal to smoke its still better to BF...

and I am a formula feeding mama that only got to BF for a month

well we all say things we regret sometimes. its worse when you say it about parenting though because we all take it more personally then. hopefully they forget about it.

My mommy friend foot in mouth moment:

One of my mommy friends reached over to get a cookie and made a comment about struggling to get down to some super skinny weight. I told her that I hated dieting because it always made me terribly "witchy" and that I would rather be a little pudgy and nice than all skinny and "witchy." Then I said, "and you are definitely not witchy."

The thing is-I was trying to tell her that she was fine. That she was good looking (as opposed to ridiculously skinny) AND pleasant to be around. I apologized profusely, she forgave me immediately, and we got a good laugh out of it.

FTR, I still nice people to witchy people! (regardless of how round they are)
